Passing Game
Jackson was afforded ample time and space (ATS) on 5 of 30 (17%) drop backs resulting in a pass or sack. With ATS, he was 3 of 3 for 48 net yards (9.6 YPP), 2 sacks.
He delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 11 times (37%) with 6 complete for 66 yards (6.0 YPP), 1 TO. He was pressured 14 times (46%), on which he completed 5 of 11 passes for 53 net yards (3.8 YPP) including 3 sacks, 1 TO. In total, Jackson outperformed his opportunity set by 9 yards (actual 167, expected 158), which is 0.3 yards per play above expectation.
By number of pass rushers for the game:
3: None
4: 18 plays, 73 net yards, 4.1 YPP, 2 sacks, 2 TO
5: 6 plays, 77 net yards, 12.8 YPP, 2 sacks
6: 6 plays, 17 net yards, 2.8 YPP, 1 sack
7+: None
The Browns rushed 5+ on 12 of 30 (40%) dropbacks resulting in a pass or sack, which is slightly above average. On those plays, the Ravens gained 7.8 net YPP, including 3 sacks. The Ravens used 14 set blocks and 13 chip blocks spread among 30 plays resulting in a pass or sack (0.90 per play). Ricard led the team with 6 set blocks and 1 chip block.
Collectively, the offensive line failed to provide Lamar a decent opportunity set despite the fact Schwartz did not crowd the LoS or rush numbers nearly as often as the Vikings did. They surrendered 8.67 pressures, 2 QH and 2 sacks. They were flagged.
OL Scoring
The Ravens ran 58 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).
Stanley: Ronnie struggled, primarily vs Myles Garrett. He was party to 5 pressure events (bulled into Jackson DE Thomas for initial pressure, ½ sack, Q2, 8:38; beaten outside by DE Garrett for initial pressure, 1/3 sack, Q2, 0:49; beaten inside by Garrett as part of jail break, 1/3 QH, Q2, 0:42; bulled by Garrett into Jackson, pressure, Q4, 14:16; beaten outside by Garrett, pressure, Q4, 8:40). Of his 8 missed blocks, 5 were losses at the LoS. He had 6 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes. He connected on both of his pulls. His highlight was a 10-yard, L2 drive/pancake of ILB Schwesinger (Q2, 7:37).
Scoring: 58 plays, 45 blocks, 8 missed, 2 pressures, 1/3 QH, 0.83 (1/2 + 1/3) sack, 35 points (.60 per play). That’s a C- after the maximum adjustment.
The Ravens again had Joe Noteboom as a healthy scratch and dressed Carson Vinson as the backup LT. The fact it happened 2 weeks in a row (1 might have been illness or even a personal matter) makes me believe the Ravens coaches believe Vinson is the more ready to play.
Vorhees: Andrew battled with the quality Cleveland interior defenders. He was party to 5 pressure events (bulled by DT Harris, pressure, Q1, 7:11; bulled into Jackson by stunting DT Graham, pressure, Q2, 12:56; beaten outside by DT Collins, 1/3 QH, Q2, 0:42; bulled by DT Hall, QH, Q4, 10:49; bulled by DT Collins, 1/2 pressure, Q4; 3:56). Of his 3 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS. He had 3 blocks in level 2 and did not deliver a pancake. He connected on all 4 of his pulls. He last missed a pull in week 5 vs Houston and has since made 19 in a row. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 58 plays, 50 blocks, 3 missed, 2.5 pressures, 1.33 QH, 41 points (.71 per play). That’s a C- after adjustment.
Linderbaum: Tyler had his best game of the season. He was not party to any negative events. Of his 3 missed blocks, 1 was a loss at the LoS. He had 8 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes. He was not asked to pull. His highlight was a combination on DT Collins then ILB Schwesinger in L2 (Q2, 7:14).
Scoring: 58 plays, 55 blocks, 3 missed, 55 points (.95 per play). That’s an A with or without adjustment.
Faalele: Daniel equaled his worst score of the season from the opener at Buffalo. He shared in 5 negative events (beaten inside by swipe from DT Graham, 2/3 sack, Q2, 0:42; beaten outside by Graham, ½ penetration, Q3, 14:19; bulled into cone by Graham, 1/3 pressure, Q3, 5:17; disengaged from DT Huntington then wandered back into cone, pressure, Q4, 5:09; bulled by DT Hall, 1/2 pressure, Q4, 3:56). Of his 7 missed blocks, 4 were losses at the LoS. He had 5 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes. He connected on 2 of 4 pulls. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 58 plays, 46 blocks, 7 missed, ½ penetration, 1.83 (1 + ½ + 1/3) pressures, 2/3 sack, 37.33 points (.64 per play). That’s a D with adjustment.
Faalele’s pending free agency makes him effectively a “rental” (the Ravens have no large stake in his future). In theory, the Ravens could drag their heels on a change because it might precipitate a reduction in market value that would affect a 2027 compensatory pick, but I don’t believe that is a driving factor with the wave of Ravens pending UFAs.
I also don’t believe the Ravens will give the public (and more importantly the next opponent) any advance warning if they decide to test or make a change at RG. I expect we’ll first learn about it when Jones or Cleveland replaces Faalele for either the start of a game or a series. In Ravens history, rotation by series has been the favored method and the fact the change has not been tried to date should be taken as the most significant evidence the coaches believe the backups would not be better. Said otherwise, the Ravens have every incentive to make their offensive line as effective as possible and they are not inclined to make a change at this time.
For the record, I would be much more surprised if the Ravens move on from Vorhees than Faalele with the primary reason being that Andrew’s rookie deal runs through 2027.
Rosengarten: Roger struggled with he Cleveland edge rushers including some snaps opposite Myles Garrett. He shared in 6 negative events (beaten inside by DE Thomas, pressure, Q1, 8:37; pancaked by Garrett, ½ sack, Q2, 8:38; beaten outside by DE McGuire, 1/3 QH, Q2, 0:42; bulled then beaten inside by McGuire, 1/3 pressure, Q3, 5:17; beaten inside by Hall as pass bounced off his helmet for INT, pressure, Q3, 4:37; failed to pick up Schwesinger, penetration, Q4, 5:52). Of his 6 missed blocks, 3 were losses at the LoS. He made 7 blocks in level 2 and delivered 3 pancakes. He connected on his only pull. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 58 plays, 46 blocks, 6 missed, 1 penetration, 2.33 pressures, 1/3 QH, ½ sack, 35.33 points (.61 per play). This is a D with or without adjustment.
