Offense Sputters to Victory

The Ravens faced a Panthers team that applied pressure in windy and cold conditions.  That combination forced Jackson to a season-low 2.63 seconds average time to throw including a number of balls schemed to be out quickly.

The Ravens afforded Jackson ample time and space (ATS) on 10 of 36 drop backs resulting in a pass/sack.  When Jackson had ATS, he completed 7 of 9 for 72 net yards (7.2 YPP, 1 sack).

Jackson delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 11 times (31%) with 10 complete for 79 yards (7.2 YPP).  He was pressured 15 times (42%), on which Jackson completed 7 of 13 passes for 42 net yards (2.8 YPP) with 2 sacks, 1 INT.

By number of pass rushers:

3: 2 plays, 13 yards, 6.5 YPP

4: 21 plays, 124 yards, 5.9 YPP, 2 sacks

5: 13 plays, 56 yards, 4.3 YPP, 1 sack, 1 INT

6+: none

The Panthers rushed 5+ on 13 of 36 pass plays (36%) on which Jackson averaged 4.3 YPP.

OL Scoring

The Ravens ran 65 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).

Stanley:  Ronnie was having a fine game prior to the injury.   He surrendered parts of 3 pressures (bulled by DE Burns, full, Q2, 0:21; beaten inside by Burns spin, half, Q2, 0:10; and beaten outside by Burns, full, Q3, 5:15).  He scored on his only pull (courtesy as trailer) and made 5 blocks in level 2.  He did not have a highlight nor a pancake.

Scoring:  45 plays, 42 blocks, 0 missed, 2.5 pressures, 37 points (.82 per play).  That’s an A- after adjustment.

Powers:  Ben was the most effective of the Ravens lineman. He allowed a pressure when bulled by DT Roy which was his only negative event (Q1, 3:07).  He had 5 missed blocks, of which 4 were losses at the LoS.  He made 6 of his 7 pulls and had 2 blocks in level 2.  He did not have a pancake nor a highlight.

Scoring:  65 plays, 59 blocks, 5 missed, 1 pressure, 57 points (.88 per play).  That’s an A after adjustment.

Linderbaum:  Tyler struggled against the titanic Derrick Brown.  He surrendered 2 full pressures (he allowed elevation to DT Roy for INT, Q2, 9:26, and he his high snap resulted in a pressured incompletion, Q4, 9:24).  He had parts of 2 penetrations (beaten right by DE Gross-Matos, half, Q3, 12:16; and swam past right by DT Brown, full, Q4, 3:28).  I don’t understand the reason why the latter penetration was not ruled a sack, since it was a result of a scramble and clearly not a designed run, but the result was not much different from a pressured incompletion.  All 6 of his missed blocks were losses at the LoS to Brown.  He succeeded on all 3 of his pulls, had 4 blocks in level 2, and delivered a pancake.  He had 2 highlight combination blocks (Q2, 10:12 and Q4, 7:20).

Scoring: 65 plays, 55 blocks, 6 missed, 1.5 penetrations, 2 pressures, 48 points (.74 per play).  That’s a D+ with adjustment.

Zeitler:  Kevin logged another plus game.  He allowed parts of three pressures (moved into cone, 1/3, Q2, 0:28; beaten inside by DT Brown, half, Q2 0:10; and failed to help on DE Gross-Matos, half, Q3, 12:16).  Of his 6 missed blocks only 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He connected on 6 of 8 pulls and made 3 blocks in level 2.  He did not have a pancake nor a highlight.

Scoring:  65 plays, 56 blocks, 6 missed, 1.33 (2 * ½ + 1/3) pressures, 53.33 points (.82 per play). That’s a B with adjustment.

Moses:  Morgan had a very good blocking game ruined by 2 penalties.  He had shares of 3 pressures (bulled by DE Gross-Matos, full, Q1, 13:20; bulled by DE Burns, half, Q2, 3:38; and bulled by DE Haynes, 1/3, Q2, 0:28).  He was flagged for a face mask (Q3, 4:34) which I scored as an illegal hands to the face since he did not appear to tug.  He was also illegally downfield on the dropped wheel route to Ricard (Q1, 14:11).  Of his 5 missed blocks 2 were losses at the LoS.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He connected on 3 of his 4 pulls including one freebie as the trailer.  His highlight was a combination block on DT Hoskins and then LB Smith in level 2 (Q2, 3:13).

Scoring:  65 plays, 57 blocks, 5 missed, 1.83 (1 + ½ + 1/3) pressures, 1 face mask (treated as illegal hands), 1 illegal downfield, 44.33 points (.68 per play).  That’s a C with adjustment.

Mekari:  Patrick struggled in relief of Stanley.  He was beaten outside by DE Gross-Matos for a full sack (Q4, 4:43).  He was shed in level 2 by LB Thompson on Jackson’s RL-1 (Q4, 3:25).  Of his 2 missed blocks, 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He connected on his only pull and had 3 blocks in level 2.

Scoring:  20 plays, 16 blocks, 2 missed, 1 penetration, 1 sack, 8 points (.40 per play).  That’s an F.
