If a Tree Falls in the Woods…

The week 18 game at Cincinnati has minimal portent for the 2022 playoffs and virtually none for 2023 in terms of QB play.

However, the offense pod with Jordan Kough includes a deep dive into what the Ravens need to try to accomplish to with Anthony Brown at QB in the Wild Card game Sunday night.

Passing Game

Brown was afforded ample time and space (ATS) on 13 of 46 (28%) drop backs resulting in a pass/sack.  With ATS, he was for 7 of 13 for 111 yards (8.5 YPP).

He delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 14 times (30%) with 8 complete for 118 yards (8.4 YPP).  He was pressured 19 times (41%), on which he completed 4 of 15 passes for 47 net yards (2.5 YPP) including 2 INT and 4 sacks.

By number of pass rushers:

3:  3 plays, 6 net yards, 2.0 YPP, 1 sack

4:  28 plays, 221 net yards, 7.9 YPP, 1 INT, 1 sack

5:  12 plays, 44 net yards, 3.7 YPP, 1 INT, 1 sack

6:  2 plays, 0 net yards, 0.0 YPP

I expect Brown will start on Sunday night and a lot will have to change for the Ravens to have a chance, beginning with ball security.

Scoring:  67 plays, 60 blocks, 2 missed, 2.5 pressures, 1.5 sacks, 46 points (.69 per play).  That’s a C with adjustment.

Powers:  Ben slipped as a pass blocker in the regular season finale.  He was party to 5 pressures (bulled by DT Carter, full, Q2, 5:09; bulled by DT Reader, half, Q3, 13:33; beaten inside by Reader, full, Q3, 10:47; bulled by Reader, full, Q4, 6:06; bulled by Sample, full, Q4, 0:29).  Of his 4 missed blocks, only 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes.  He scored on all 3 of his pulls.  His highlight was three separate blocks pushed DE Ossai, pancaked Reader, then picked up DT Hill thrown on a screen pass to Drake (Q2, 14:06).

Scoring:  73 plays, 64 blocks, 4 missed, 4.5 pressure, 55 points (.75 per play).  That’s a C with adjustment.

Linderbaum:  Tyler bounced back strong from his poor outing against the Steelers.  He was party to 2 pressures (botched stunt hand off with Cleveland, half, Q3, 5:42; bulled by Reader, full, Q3, 3:35).  He was flagged for holding Reader (Q2, 11:20).  Of his 2 missed blocks both were losses at the LoS.  He connected on both of his pulls.  He had 5 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He had 2 highlights, the more impressive of which was blocking DT Hill into Sample to take out 2 rushers on one pass play (Q2, 3:04). 

Scoring: 73 plays, 69 blocks, 2 missed, 1.5 pressures, 1 offensive holding, 60 points (.82 per play).  That’s a B after adjustment.

Cleveland:  Ben started for the first time this season and delivered a solid performance.  He was party to 3 pressures (botched stunt hand off with Linderbaum, half, Q3, 5:42; allowed PD from DT Carter, full, Q3, 2:08; bulled by DT Hill, full, Q4, 0:47).  Of his 8 missed blocks, 4 were losses at the LoS.  He connected on 6 of his 9 pulls.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 and no pancakes.  He had 2 highlights the more impressive of which was blocking both S Bates and CB Apple on Drake’s TD run (Q2, 2:00).

Scoring:  73 plays, 62 blocks, 8 missed, 2.5 pressures, 57 points (.78 per play). That’s a C after adjustment.

Moses:  Morgan struggled against DE Hubbard. He was party to 3 pressure events (bulled by Hubbard, ½ sack, Q4, 10:10; beaten inside by DT Hill, full QH, Q1, 5:01; bulled by Hubbard, full pressure, Q3, 12:56).  He was flagged for holding on Hill (declined)  (Q4, 6:03).  Of his 8 missed blocks 3 were losses at the LoS.  He had 4 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes.  He scored on 5 of 9 pulls (1 courtesy as trailer).  He had 2 highlights, 1 combination block and 1 where he drove Hill 5 yards off the LoS (Q2, 2:23). 

Scoring:  68 plays, 56 blocks, 8 missed, 1 pressure, 1 QH, ½ sack, 1 offensive holding, 42 points (.62 per play).  That’s a D with or without adjustment.

Mekari:  Patrick replaced Stanley for 6 plays and made 5 blocks.  I did not grade him since he was shy of the 20-snap minimum.

Faalele:  Daniel replaced Moses for the final drive and made 4 of 5 blocks.  I did not grade him since he was shy of the 20-snap minimum.
