OL Scoring

The Ravens ran 56 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).

Stanley:  Ronnie was effective with the exception of 1 play among his 20 snaps.  He was party to only 1 pressure event, beaten outside by OLB Highsmith to flush Huntley into Watt’s sack, 2/3 sack (Q3, 14:19).  Of his 2 missed blocks, 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 and did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on 1 of 2 pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  20 plays, 17 blocks, 2 missed, 2/3 sack, 13 points (.65 per play).  That’s a C after adjustment.

Simpson:  John scored his fifth consecutive game in the D range. He was party to 3 negative events, (whiffed on OLB Watt while pulling, full penetration, Q2, 3:04; pc’d by ILB Walker, full pressure, Q2, 2:26; bulled by DT Heyward, ½ pressure, Q4, 3:13).  Of his 7 missed blocks, 6 were losses at the LoS (5 of these to Heyward).  He had 1 block in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He scored 1 net point on 5 pulls.  He had 1 highlight combination block.

Scoring:  53 plays, 43 blocks, 7 missed, 1 penetration, 1.5 pressures, 38 points (.72 per play).  That’s a D+ after adjustment.

John broke a streak of 4 consecutive games with a penalty and 6 of 7 but he struggled maintaining his ground vs Cam Heyward.

Is it still possible Harbaugh will make an OL shift for the playoffs?  I tend to doubt it based on his bias to loyalty and continuity, but Simpson has left the door ajar with not only a high penalty rate but also poor pulling results this season.  That is a particular weakness for Cleveland, but Cleveland has been a more effective both as a pass blocker and in terms of generating movement in his opponent at the LoS.  Kevin Zeitler has played his whole career at RG, so I think if we were going to see Cleveland at LG in the divisional round, we should have seen him rotate there at some point over the last 2 weeks.

Linderbaum:  Tyler earned his 6th A of the season.  He had a perfect 21-snap game and 3rd A+ by any Ravens lineman.  He had 1 block in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on his only pull.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring: 21 plays, 21 blocks, 21 points (1.00 per play).  That’s an A+ without adjustment.

Cleveland:  Ben played a 2nd consecutive fine game.  He allowed 2 full pressures (beaten outside by DT Watts, Q4, 11:07; driven back by DT Ogunjobi to flush Huntley right, Q4, 0:53).  Huntley ran out of a 3rd pressure for which he lost most of his adjustment.  Of his 3 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS.  He had 2 blocks in level 2 and did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on his only pull.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  56 plays, 51 blocks, 3 missed, 2 pressures, 47 points (.84 per play). That’s a B with or without adjustment.

Regardless of whether or not he sees significant playing time in the postseason, he’ll be a key player for 2024.

Moses: Morgan struggled vs. OLB Watt.  He was party to 3 pressure events (spun off balance then bulled by Watt, full pressure, Q1, 10:26; beaten inside by Watt after chip from Likely, 1/3 sack, Q3, 14:19; beaten outside by Watt, ½ sack, Q3, 9:03).  He missed 3 blocks, 1 of which was a loss at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 and did not deliver a pancake.  He made his only pull.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  28 plays, 22 blocks, 3 missed, 1 pressure, .83 (1/3 + ½) sacks, 15 points (.54 per play).  That’s a D with adjustment.

Morgan last played more than 46 snaps in W14 vs the Chargers and both he and Faalele have been effectively rotating since.  Morgan has not had a single failing grade for a game this season which is unusual for a tackle, since there is significant game-to-game variance in results.  This was his 3rd D and the lowest raw score.  As the Ravens prepare for a run of elite pass rushing opponents in the playoffs, he’s a central figure.

Mekari:  Patrick relieved Stanley for 36 plays at LT.  He was party to 5 pressure events (bulled by Highsmith to flush Huntley right, full pressure, Q3, 4:14; beaten outside by Highsmith, full pressure, Q4, 11:07; bulled by Highsmith, ½ pressure, Q4, 3:14; bulled by Highsmith, full pressure, Q4, 1:36; bulled then shed by OLB Golden, full sack, Q4, 0:45).  Huntley also ran him out of 2 more pressures.  Of his 7 missed blocks, 5 were losses at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake. He made both his pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  36 plays, 24 blocks, 7 missed, 3.5 pressures, 1 sack, 11 points (.31 per play).  That’s an F.

He also played 6 snaps at Center and made all 6 of those blocks, including 2 blocks in level 2 and 1 highlight.

Faalele: Daniel rotated with Moses for 28 snaps and again delivered solid results.  He was party to 2 negative events (beaten outside by Highsmith, 1/2 penetration, Q4, 14:18; bulled by Golden, full pressure, Q4, 2:57).  Of his 4 missed blocks, 3 were losses at the LoS.  He did not have a block in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He was not assigned to pull.  He had 1 highlight combination block.

Scoring:  28 plays, 22 blocks, 4 missed, ½ penetration, 1 pressure, 19 points (.68 per play).  That’s a C after adjustment.

Over the last 4 games (since Jax), Faalele has scored 66 of a possible 92 points (.72 before adjustment, C with or without adjustment).  He had scored 111.5 points on his first 241 career snaps (.46) prior to this 4-game run.

Mustipher: Sam entered at LG for 3 snaps then moved to Center for the remainder of the 2nd half.   He was party to 2 pressure events (beaten outside by DT Heyward, ½ sack, Q3, 14:19; bulled by Heyward to flush Huntley right, full QH, Q3, 3:10).  His missed block was not a loss at the LoS.  He had 2 blocks in level 2 and did not deliver a pancake.  He did not connect on his only pull.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  32 plays, 29 blocks, 1 missed, 1 QH, ½ sack, 23 points (.72 per play).  That’s a D after adjustment.
