Passing/Pressure Analysis

Jackson was afforded ample time and space (ATS) on 20 of 45 (44%, a season high) drop backs resulting in a pass/sack.  With ATS, he threw for 212 net yards (10.6 YPP), 1 INT.

He delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 8 times (18%) with 6 complete for 40 yards (5.0 YPP).  He was pressured 17 times (38%), on which he completed 6 passes for 59 net yards (3.5 YPP), 2 sacks.

Jackson also ran his OL out of pressure on 3 occasions, in each case turning a pressure into a run for a gain.

By number of pass rushers:

3:  2 plays, 0 yards, 1 INT

4:  29 plays, 230 net yards, 7.9 YPP, 1 sack

5:  11 plays, 80 net yards, 7.3 YPP, 1 sack

6+:  3 plays, 0 net yards

The Rams used some variety in terms of numbers, but didn’t show a strong tendency for more effectiveness with 5+ rushing..

OL Scoring

The Ravens ran 70 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).

Stanley:  Ronnie mirrored well, but again had difficulty keeping his feet clear of Lamar’s throwing lanes.  He surrendered 4 full pressures (bulled by OLB Young, Q1, 5:27; bulled by OLB Hoecht, Q2, 1:16; bulled by Young, Q2, 1:05; bulled by Hoecht, Q4, 4:35).  Of his 3 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS including a dangerous block of Hoecht into the legs of Simpson, Linderbaum and Zeitler (Q4, 1:22).  He had 5 blocks in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on his only pull.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  56 plays, 49 blocks, 3 missed, 4 pressures, 41 points (.73 per play).  That’s a C with or without adjustment.

The staggered rotation of Mekari and Faalele at LT/RT was done in a way to minimize its play impact by including at least 1 of the starters at all times.  In creating this system to keep both tackles fresh, an ancillary benefit might have been selling the rotation to both Stanley and Moses.

Simpson:  John had his 2nd worst game of the year. He was party to 3 pressure events (bulled by DT Donald, 1/3 QH, Q1, 4:15; beaten outside by Donald, full pressure, Q2, 1:12; beaten outside by stunting Donald, ½ sack, Q4, 1:52).  Lamar also ran him out of 1 other pressure.  Of his 9 missed blocks, 6 were losses at the LoS.  His false start was his 7th flag of the year, second on the team to Stanley (8).  It was also the 5th time one of his penalties contributed to a stalled drive.  He had 2 blocks in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on all 3 of his pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  70 plays, 58 blocks, 9 missed, 1 pressure, 1/3 QH, ½ sack, 1 false start, 49 points (.70 per play).  That’s a D with or without adjustment.

Linderbaum:  Tyler had a below average game with both some difficulty as a pass blocker and a costly, errant snap .  He received a 1/2 share of QH with Faalele when beaten left by NT Turner (Q4, 8:59). His early and wide snap resulted in a safety equivalent to a sack for 15-yard loss.  For scoring purposes I charged him with -4 (2/3 sack) attributing the other 1/3 to Lamar.  Lamar also ran him out of 2 pressures for which I significantly reduced his adjustment.  Of his 7 missed blocks 4 were losses at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on both of his pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring: 70 plays, 61 blocks, 7 missed, ½ QH, 2/3 sack, 55.5 points (.79 per play).  That’s a C- after adjustment.

Zeitler:  Kevin continued his streak of fine play.  He was party to 3 pressures, (bulled by Donald, full, Q2, 10:44; allowed PD by Donald, half, Q3, 10:12; beaten outside by Donald, full, Q4, 4:41). Of his 4 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS.  He had 4 blocks in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He made 3 of 3 pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  70 plays, 63 blocks, 4 missed, 2.5 pressures, 58 points (.83 per play). That’s a B after adjustment.

Moses: Morgan was effective in 62 snaps.  He was party to 4 pressure events (beaten outside by OLB Hoecht, 2/3 QH, Q1, 4:15; bulled by DE Williams, 1/3 QH, Q3, 0:44; bulled by OLB Thomas, full pressure, Q4, 2:55; turned around by OLB Young, ½ sack, Q4, 1:52).  Of his 2 missed blocks, 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He received a courtesy point as the trailer on his only pull.  He had 3 highlight combination blocks.

Scoring:  62 plays, 56 blocks, 2 missed, 1 pressure, 1 (1/3 + 2/3) QH, 1/2 sack, 48 points (.77 per play).  That’s a B with adjustment.

Mekari:  Patrick replaced Stanley for 14 snaps and made 13 blocks.  His only miss was a loss at the LoS.

Faalele: Daniel replaced Moses for 8 snaps and made 7 blocks.  He was beaten outside by OLB Young for a QH shared with Linderbaum (Q4, 8:59).
