Passing/Pressure Analysis

Jackson was afforded ample time and space (ATS) on 11 of 29 (38%) drop backs resulting in a pass/sack.  With ATS, he was 6 of 10 for 85 net yards (7.7 YPP), 1 sack.

He delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 8 times (28%) with 7 complete for 89 net yards (11.1 YPP).  He was pressured 10 times (34%), on which he completed 3 of 8 passes for 74 net yards (7.4 YPP), 2 sacks.

Jackson continued his roller-coaster results vs pressure from a remarkable 22.4 YPP under pressure vs the Lions followed by very solid results of 7.3 YPP vs the Cardinals and 4.0 YPP vs the Seahawks.  He then posted -1.9 YPP under pressure from the Browns is one of the worst figures I have ever recorded for a Ravens QB but recovered to a fine 7.4 YPP vs the Bengals.

By number of pass rushers:

3:  2 plays, 37 yards, 18.5 YPP

4:  22 plays, 186 net yards, 8.5 YPP, 2 sacks

5:  2 plays, -5 net yards, -2.5 YPP, 1 sack

6:  3 plays, 30 net yards, 10.0 YPP

The Bengals stayed primarily with a 4-man rush but held Lamar to 5.0 YPP when they rushed 5+.

OL Scoring

The Ravens ran 50 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).

Mekari:  Patrick did not fare as well the second time around facing DE Hendrickson.  He was beaten outside by Hendrickson for a 9-yard sack (2/3 charge shared with Moses, Q1, 6:28).  He had a 1/3 share of a QH when knocked off balance by Hendrickson shared with Moses and Zeitler (Q1, 2:58).  He was party to 4 pressures (beaten outside by Hendrickson, half share, Q2, 13:26; bulled by Hendrickson, full, Q2, 1:30; bulled by DE Ossai, 1/3 share, Q4, 10:45; bulled then shed by Murphy, half share, Q4, 7:45).  Of his 5 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS.  He had 4 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He connected on all 3 of his pulls.  He had 2 highlights, the more impressive of which was a pull with 6+ yards of push on ILB Pratt in L2 (Q4, 8:25).

Scoring:  60 plays, 49 blocks, 5 missed, 1.83 (1 + ½ + 1/3) pressures, 1/3 QH, 2/3 sack, 1 false starts, 37.33 points (.62 per play).  That’s a D+ after adjustment.

As I finalize this, Joey Bosa appears to have suffered a serious injury but LA still has Khalil Mack to contend with which will likely require a focus of offensive scheme and eligible receiver attention on Sunday night.

Simpson:  John regressed with a pair of holding penalties after 5 straight weeks without a flag.  He was beaten inside by DT Hill for a full QH (Q2, 14:16).  He also shared a pressure with Mekari when bulled then shed by DT Carter (Q4, 7:45).  Both holding flags occurred on pass plays (vs. Reader Q2, 1:00 and when he inexplicably threw his arm out to stop the blitzing S Battle, Q4, 11:46).  Of his 3 missed blocks, only 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He connected on 6 of 8 pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  60 plays, 55 blocks, 3 missed, ½ pressure, 1 QH, 2 offensive holdings, 39 points (.65 per play).  That’s a D with adjustment.

The 5 consecutive games without a penalty is the longest streak of Simpson’s career.

Linderbaum:  Tyler matched his best game of the season.  He did not have any negative events.  Of his 6 missed blocks only 2 were losses at the LoS.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on 2 of his 3 pulls.  He had a highlight combination block (Q4, 8:10).

Scoring: 60 plays, 54 blocks, 6 missed, 54 points (.90 per play).  That’s an A after adjustment.

Tyler sat out the week 2 matchup with the Bengals but DJ Reader is a difficult size matchup for him and he held up well.

Zeitler:  Kevin extended his run to 6 fine games of the last 7.  He was party to 3 pressure events (bulled by DT Reader, 1/3 QH, Q1, 2:58; bulled by DT Hill to flush Jackson, ½ sack, Q3, 5:36; bulled by Reader to phonebooth pocket, 1/3 pressure, Q4, 10:45).  His only missed block was a loss at the LoS.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes.  He connected on all 5 of his pulls.  He had 2 highlight combination blocks (Q1, 12:58; Q3, 8:10).

Scoring:  60 plays, 56 blocks, 1 missed, 1/3 pressure, 1/3 QH, ½ sack, 51.33 points (.86 per play). That’s an A- after adjustment.

Moses:  Morgan returned from a shoulder injury and provided much appreciated relief at right tackle.  He was party to 4 pressure events (bulled by DE Sample, full pressure, Q1, 13:38; bulled by Murphy to phonebooth pocket, 1/3 sack, Q1, 6:28; bulled by Reader to help flush Jackson, 1/3 QH, Q1, 2:58; bulled by Reader to phonebooth pocket, 1/3 pressure, Q4, 10:45).  Of his 4 missed blocks, none were losses at the LoS.  He had 2 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  He scored on 3 of 4 pulls, including 2 courtesy points as the trailer.  His highlight was a combination block on DT Hill then S Hill in L2 (Q4, 5:37).

Scoring:  60 plays, 52 blocks, 4 missed, 1.33 pressures, 1/3 QH, 1/3 sack, 46.33 points (.77 per play).  That’s a B- after adjustment.

Cleveland:  Ben entered once as a 6th offensive lineman and made 2 of 3 blocks.
