Passing/Pressure Analysis

Jackson was afforded ample time and space (ATS) on 9 of 26 (35%) drop backs resulting in a pass/sack.  With ATS, he was 6 of 9 for 113 yards (12.6 YPP), 1 INT.

He delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 7 times (27%) with 6 complete for 106 yards (15.1 YPP).  He was pressured 10 times (38%), on which he completed 1 of 7 passes for -19 net yards (-1.9 YPP), 3 sacks and 1 INT.

Jackson posted a remarkable 22.4 YPP under pressure vs the Lions followed by very solid results of 7.3 YPP vs the Cardinals and 4.0 YPP vs the Seahawks.  The -1.9 YPP under pressure from the Browns is one of the worst figures I have ever recorded for a Ravens QB.

By number of pass rushers:

3:  none

4:  19 plays, 147 net yards, 4.8 YPP, 2 sacks, 2 INT

5:  1 play, 32 net yards

6+:  6 plays, 21 net yards, 3.5 YPP, 1 sack

The Browns kept Lamar and Monken guessing in terms of numbers but they were also very effective with their 4-man rush.

OL Scoring

The Ravens ran 50 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).

Stanley:  Ronnie was struggling with the Brown’s edge rushers before he departed with a knee injury.  He shared a QH with Mekari when beaten outside by DE Garrett despite Simpson’s chip (half charge, Q1, 11:03).  He had a 1/3 share of a sack when bulled by Garrett, shared with Linderbaum and Mitchell (Q2, 3:12).  His pair of false starts were attempts to cheat on pass blocking.  Of his 4 missed blocks, only 1 was a loss at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 and delivered 3 pancakes.  He connected on 1 of 2 pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring:  40 plays, 34 blocks, 4 missed, ½ QH, 1/3 sack, 2 false starts, 24.5 points (.61 per play).  That’s a C after adjustment.

It’s natural to expect any LT to struggle with Myles Garrett, but even a maximum adjustment only pushed his grade to the minimum for a C at tackle.  Despite play that has dropped far from his own standards prior to his 2020 injury, he remains the most important player on the Ravens injury report.

Simpson:  John had his best game of the season.  He had no negative events.  Of his 3 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS.  He was twice on the ground, once shed as he entered L2 and as second time by push/pull. For the fifth consecutive week, he did not draw a penalty.  He had 4 blocks in level 2 and delivered 4 pancakes.  He connected on all 3 of his pulls.  He had 4 highlights, the best of which was a pancake of LB Walker on the 32-yard screen pass to Mitchell.  On that play, he continued to hustle down the field and just missed a block which would have cleared the way for Mitchell to score (Q1, 4:55).

Scoring:  50 plays, 47 blocks, 3 missed, 47 points (.94 per play).  That’s an A with or without adjustment.

Linderbaum:  Tyler had a difficult game which came up just sort of a passing grade.  He received a 1/3 share of the sack by OLB Smith and SCB Newsome when he was bulled by DT Tomlinson and then OLB Smith (Q2, 3:12).  His holding flag negated Hill’s 6-yard TD run (Q4, 13:51).  Of his 7 missed blocks 4 were losses at the LoS.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes.  He connected on 4 of his 5 pulls.  He did not have a highlight.

Scoring: 50 plays, 41 blocks, 7 missed, 1/3 sack, 1 offensive holding, 33 points (.66 per play).  That’s an F even after adjustment.

Tyler sat out the week 2 matchup with the Bengals but DJ Reader is a difficult stylistic matchup for him.

Zeitler:  Kevin had his fifth outstanding game of the last 6.  His only negative event was a 1/3 share of a sack with Ricard and Mekari when he failed to pick up Garrett stunting through the right A-gap (Q3, 1:21).  His only missed block came on his only pull attempt.  He had 3 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake.  For his only highlight he handed off DT Hurst to Mekari then picked up the stunting DE Okoronkwo which also caught ILB Takitaki in the wash (Q2, 4:43).

Scoring:  49 plays, 47 blocks, 1 missed, 1/3 sack, 45 points (.92 per play). That’s an A before adjustment.

Mekari:  Patrick essentially duplicated his difficult first outing against the Browns after scoring the first A+ by a Ravens lineman against the Seahawks.  He was party to 2 sacks (beaten outside by DE Wright, 1/3 share, Q3, 1:21; bulled then shed/pancaked by Garrett, full, Q3, 0:35).  He shared a QH with Stanley when he failed to stay engage with DE Smith (Q1, 11:03).  He also surrendered 4.5 pressures (bulled by DE Smith, full, Q1, 3:38; bulled by DT Hurst, half, Q2, 4:43; allows S Delpit in throwing lane, full, Q3, 12:39; bulled, dropped to knees, allowed PD to Okoronkwo, full, Q4, 8:24; bulled/pancaked by Smith, full, Q4, 6:50).  Of his 4 missed blocks, 3 were losses at the LoS.  He had 1 block in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake.  He connected on his only pull.  He had 3 highlights, the best of which was a handoff followed by a Glenn-Ressler-style spin to block the stunting Okoronkwo (Q2, 15:00).

Scoring:  50 plays, 38 blocks, 4 missed, 4.5 pressures, ½ QH, 1.33 sacks, 19.5 points (.39 per play).  That’s an F evenafter a near maximum adjustment for quality of competition.

Cleveland:  Ben entered once as a 6th offensive lineman and played the final snap at right guard.  He connected on both of his blocks.

Faalele: Daniel replaced Stanley after he was injured connected on 6 of 10 blocks.  His 4 misses included 3 losses at the LoS.
