Passing Game
Jackson was afforded ample time and space (ATS) on 10 of 34 (29%) drop backs resulting in a pass/sack. With ATS, he was 7 of 10 for 80 yards (8.0 YPP).
He delivered the ball before pressure could develop (BOQ) 11 times (32%) with 9 complete for 93 yards (8.5 YPP), including 1 interception. He was pressured 13 times (38%), on which he completed 5 of 11 passes for 59 net yards (4.5 YPP) including 2 sacks.
Lamar’s overall passing production was approximately 35 yards better than expected for his opportunity set. However, he ran his linemen out of just 1 pressure after relieving them of 7 vs KC in week 1.
By number of pass rushers:
3: none
4: 28 plays, 199 net yards, 7.1 YPP, 2 sacks, 1 turnover
5: 4 plays, 18 net yards, 4.5 YPP
6: 2 plays, 15 net yards, 7.5 YPP
7: none
The Ravens used 15 set and 15 chip blocks among 34 pass plays (excluding 2 spikes). That’s 0.88 receivers of 5 per play committed to blocking a pass rush that was just 4 men on 82% of the plays. That’s indicative of an OC that is concerned about matchups for the OL.
Hill was used 10 times as a set blocker and 5 more times to chip which provides context as to why he outsnapped Henry 35-30 for the game.
OL Scoring
The Ravens ran 61 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).
Stanley: Ronnie played well excepting an odd holding flag. He was party to 2 pressure events (bulled by DE Snowden, full, Q2, 0:27; bulled by DE Robinson, half, Q4, 0:14). He was also flagged for offensive holding on DT Butler (Q2, 3:38) which negated most of a 9-yard run and stalled the drive that ended with the 56-yard missed FG. On that play he appeared to block straight ahead (as opposed to holds which are made obvious because the defender tries to disengage to one side. Butler also did not raise his arms for the flag. It is unusual to see a flag thrown under those circumstances. Of his 4 missed blocks, only 1 was a loss at the LoS. He had 4 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake. He connected on his only pull. His highlight was a block of Snowden followed by a push of the scrum to help Henry cross the goal line (Q4, 12:17).
Scoring: 61 plays, 54 blocks, 4 missed, 1.5 pressures, 1 offensive holding, 46 points (.75 per play). That’s a B- with adjustment. Had he not been flagged for holding, his score would have graded solidly in the A range after adjustment.
Vorhees: Andrew took a step back from week 1. He was party to 3 negative events (too slow to block Crosby on pull, penetration, Q1, 4:19; beaten right by DT Butler, pressure, Q2, 2:41; beaten inside by stunt DT Wilkins, pressure, Q4, 0:27). He was also flagged for holding when beaten by Butler as a pass blocker (Q3, 1:19). Of his 3 missed blocks, 2 were losses at the LoS. He had 3 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake. He scored -1 net point on 2 pulls. He had 3 varied highlights (combination block, Q1, 12:04; 2 blocks on pull, Q3, 15:00; good stunt handoff/pickup, Q4, 14:18).
Scoring: 61 plays, 55 blocks, 3 missed, 1 penetration, 2 pressures, 1 offensive holding, 44 points (.72 per play). That’s a C- after adjustment.
Linderbaum: Tyler was solid despite struggling with large interior opponents. He was party to only 1 negative event when beaten left by LB Deablo, Q2, 1:37. Of his uncharacteristically high 8 missed blocks, 5 were losses at the LoS. In addition, on one of his misses, he advanced 5 yards into L2, recalled the play was a designed pass, and retreated to avoid potential IDP just as Lamar scrambled (Q3, 1:10). He had 5 blocks in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake. He connected on both of his pulls. He had 2 highlights, the more impressive of which was jumping a gap to assist with Crosby who was bulling Mekari (Q2, 14:21).
Scoring: 61 plays, 52 blocks, 8 missed, 1 pressure, 50 points (.82 per play). That’s a B- after adjustment.
Faalele: Daniel struggled vs. Wilkins and Crosby. He was party to 4 negative events (beaten inside by DT Wilkins, full pressure, Q2, 8:40; beaten outside by Wilkins who he then pc’d in the cone, full pressure, Q2, 4:21; failed to pick up stunting Crosby, full sack, Q4, 3:54; bulled with Mekari by Wilkins, ¼ pressure, Q4, 0:14). Of his 10 missed blocks 5 were losses at the LoS and 1 would have been a pressure had Lamar not run out of it, for which his adjustment was reduced, (Q3, 1:10). He had 1 block in level 2 and delivered 1 pancake. He connected on 1 of his 3 pulls. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 61 plays, 47 blocks, 10 missed, 2.25 pressures, 1 sack, 36.5 points (.60 per play). That’s an F even after adjustment.
Mekari: Patrick struggled vs. Maxx Crosby. He was party to 4 pressure events (failed to pickup CB Hobbs, full pressure, Q1, 11:21; bulled then shed outside by Crosby, full sack, Q1, 10;39; gave ground into cone to Crosby, full pressure, Q2, 14:21; bulled with Faalele by Wilkins, 1/4 pressure, Q4, 0:14). Of his 5 missed blocks 3 were losses at the LoS. He had 1 block in level 2 but did not deliver a pancake. He missed on his only pull. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 44 plays, 35 blocks, 5 missed, 2.25 pressures, 1 sack, 24.5 points (.56 per play). That’s a D after adjustment.
Rosengarten: Roger rotated with Mekari at RT for 3 drives and played well. He made 15 of his 17 blocks. Of his 2 missed blocks, 1 was a loss at the LoS. He had 1 block in level 2 but did not have a pancake, pull, or highlight.
Scoring: 17 plays, 15 blocks, 2 missed, (.88 per play). No grade is assigned as he played fewer than 20 snaps.
I expect Rosengarten will see a larger share of snaps in Dallas.
