Extended Treatment
With time lost to travel, we have only extended treatment for some of the Ravens this week.
Travis Jones
- (Q1, 11:56): He threw aside/pancaked LT Darrisaw to tackle RB Jones RM2
- (Q2, 14:55): He worked off double team from RG Fries and RT O’Neill to push Fries into cone late and deflect pass at LoS, negating potential DPI
- (Q2, 14:03): On 3rd/4, he drove back LG Jackson into legs of McCarthy for QH as he completed PM18 to WR Nailor
- (Q2, 13:18): He had an uncredited assist on RB Mason RL-1 with Okoye
- (Q2, 6:54): On 3rd/6, he slapped past LG Jackson outside for pressure as McCarthy threw INT to Starks
- (Q3, 14:55): He was sealed by RT O’Neill as part of RB Jones RM17
- (Q3, 4:14): He was blocked by RG Fries as part of Jones RR11
- (Q3, 2:26): On 3rd/15, he worked through double team from C Brandel and LG Jackson for late pressure as McCarthy threw INC to force FG
- (Q4, 9:54): He cleaned up S-3 off initial pressure from Buchanan and Bryan
- (Q4, 8:10): On 2nd/9, he bulled then beat LG Jackson outside for pressure as McCarthy threw PL6 to Nailor
- (Q4, 7:26): On 3rd/3, he bulled LG Jackson into cone as Jenkins elevated for PD/near INT by Smith
- (Q4, 7:19): On 4th/3, he was triple teamed by LT Darrisaw, LG Jackson, and C Brandel as McCarthy overthrew WR Jefferson for turnover on downs
- (Q4, 3:34): On 3rd/5, he bulled then shed LG Jackson for PD/QH as ball floated out of EZ
Orr leaned into use of Jones on pass plays (39 of 46 snaps) and schemed ways to get him 1-on-1 opportunities. When he had such chances, he was virtually unstoppable in what was his best game as a Raven (topping last week’s effort vs the Dolphins). All 3 of his tackles were defensive wins and he contributed to 3 drive-ending plays.
Dre’Mont Jones
- (Q2, 7:42): He beat RT O’Neill inside for late QH on PD by Okoye
- (Q2, 0:46): He beat RT O’Neill outside for initial pressure to flush McCarthy right where he grounded ball to force punt
- (Q4, 5:04): He beat RG Fries outside to flush McCarthy right where Van Noy chased down for late QH
- (Q4, 3:28): He bulled RG Fries into McCarthy as Van Noy also delivered phonebooth pressure but McCarthy threw PR10 TD to Nailor in back of EZ
- (Q4, 1:39): He pancaked RT O’Neill but also fell down which forced McCarthy scramble RR26 which burned 25 of 69 remaining seconds
- (Q4, 0:52): On 2nd/6, he beat C Brandel left for QH as McCarthy overthrew Nailor 15 yards [5]
Dre’Mont delivered as hoped in his first Ravens game including contributions to 5 pressure events plus a late QH. He lined up both inside and outside, providing relief for the absence of Tavius Robinson. With just 4 run snaps played, we have yet to see what he brings as an edge setter, but I did not note any plays where he was blocked at or near the point of attack on Vikings run successes.
The presence of Jones had positive effects of reducing usage of Ojabo (10 snaps) and helping Green maintain a higher motor than at any time to date (see below).
Kyle Hamilton
- (Q1, 13:13): He bulled RT O’Neill into cone then elevated for PD intended for RB Jones
- (Q1, 12:30): On 3rd/6, he blitzed unblocked through right B-gap for QH but McCarthy converted PR10 to WR Jefferson
- (Q1, 3:07): On 3rd/12, he and Simpson tackled McCarthy RR10 after misses by Van Noy and Smith to force punt
- (Q2, 14:03): He had underneath zone as McCarthy completed PM18 (15 + 3) [2] to Nailor
- (Q2, 7:42): He beat RG Fries outside for initial pressure with Bryan as Okoye followed up with PD and D. Jones delivered QH
- (Q3, 7:50): He overran play as part of RB Mason RR13
- (Q3, 5:53): On 3rd/2, he beat RB Mason inside for pressure/PD to bring up 4th/2
- (Q3, 5:50): On 4th/2, he drew illegal blindside block from WR Thielen as Awuzie delivered PD for turnover on downs
- (Q4, 3:23): On the 2-pt try, WR Thielen picked him but Awuzie executed exchange/delivered PD to deny attempt
The Vikings did not have an answer for Kyle as a pass rusher and his presence was keenly felt on several of the 8 false starts where he was opposite the flagged player (examples: Q2, 11:55; Q2, 8:03; Q4, 0:47). He had contributions to 2 drive-ending plays.
Mike Green
- (Q1, 9:50): On 1st/Goal, he was kicked out by TE Yurosek as part of RB Jones RL4 TD
- (Q1, 3:39): On 2nd/7, he eurostepped past RT O’Neill inside to tackle Jones RM-5
- (Q2, 12:39): On 2nd/11, he delivered bone-jarring rerouting of Jefferson at -4, was blocked by LT Darrisaw, then chased down McCarthy on RM3 scramble
- (Q3, 13:38): He was blocked by TE Sims and fooled on naked boot left as McCarthy completed PL4 to WR Addison
- (Q3, 2:34): On 1st/15, he beat LT Darrisaw outside but had not yet pressured as McCarthy rifled BOQ high/incomplete for RB Jones at -5
- (Q4, 5:11): He beat LT Darrisaw outside to flush McCarthy left as Bryan delivered late QH all negated by Smith DPI on Jones
- (Q4, 4:58): He spun past LT Darrisaw inside for pressure as McCarthy threw incomplete for Addison with near INT Smith
- (Q4, 1:14): On 1st/10, he took chip from TE Hockenson then beat RT O’Neill inside for late QH as McCarthy threw PR4 to Hockenson tackled inbounds
- (Q4, 0:47): On 3rd/11, he beat RT O’Neill outside to force McCarthy scramble RL7 tackled inbounds by Martin
- (Q4, 0:21): On 4th/4, he maintained 10 full seconds of dogged pursuit on McCarthy before delivering late QH as underthrow for Jones could not be collected, forcing turnover on downs
“Relentless” is the single word I’d use to describe Mike in this game. He maintained a motor and delivered several late pressure events including the game-sealing play. He still played 47 snaps (72%) but was fresh for the last drive.
Chidobe Awuzie
- (Q1, 10:40): He MT at 41 yards on PL62 (25 + 37) [1] to Nailor
- (Q2, 0:50): He had tight coverage of Addison 15 yards [1] to force overthrow
- (Q3, 5:50): On 4th/2, he undercut Addison for PD 14 yards [2] for turnover on downs
- (Q3, 2:26): On 3rd/15, he had tight coverage of Jefferson 30 yards [1] as McCarthy overthrew under pressure
- (Q4, 8:43): He was flagged for ticky-tack (minimal arm contact), 38-yard DPI on WR Addison
- (Q4, 4:49): On 4th/10, he delivered late QH as McCarthy completed PR28 (28 + 0) [5] to Nailor
- (Q4, 3:23): On 2-point try, he switched to cover Jefferson and deliver PD in EZ to deny
Chidobe played in dime packages then replaced Humphrey late in the third quarter. He ran in phase with Jefferson and Addison for the most part, contributed to 2 drive-ending plays, and knocked away McCarthy’s 2-point try intended for Jefferson after an assignment shift necessitated by a pick from Thielen.
Taven Bryan
- (Q2, 9:10): He was sealed by RT O’Neill as part of Jones RM6
- (Q2, 7:42): He bulled LG Jackson into cone for pressure as Okoye elevated for PD and D. Jones delivered late QH
- (Q2, 0:46): On 3rd/5, he stunted past LG Jackson outside then delivered late QH off initial pressure from D. Jones to force grounded pass/punt
- (Q4, 10:40): On 1st/10, he was driven off ball by RG Fries/ RT O’Neill as part of Mason RR12
- (Q4, 9:54): He bulled LG Jackson then beat help block from C Brandel to phonebooth pocket as T. Jones cleaned up S-3
- (Q4, 5:11): He delivered late QH off initial pressure from Green, negated by Smith DPI on Jones
- (Q4, 4:16): He bulled RG Fries to flush McCarthy for RR2 chased down by Van Noy
Taven delivered 3 pressure events and had a 4th negated by DPI. His size is not optimal to play vs the run, so the onus is on Orr to make sure he’s playing obvious pass downs while Urban is on the field to combat the run.
Defensive MVPs
