General OL Play
The offensive line had a long day against the Rams front 4, providing Huntley with ATS on only 5 of 35 plays resulting in a pass or sack (14%, excludes 2 spikes), one of the lowest percentages I have seen. Despite a Ravens offense was focused on getting the ball out quickly, Huntley was pressured on 19 plays (54%). That’s a very high percentage of pressures, but it’s worse given the fact the Rams rushed 4 on 26 plays of those 35 plays and 5 on the other 9.
As is often the case in a game with little blitzing, most of those pressure charges went to the offensive line.
Individual Scoring
The Ravens ran 67 scored snaps (excludes accepted penalties which result in no play, kneels, spikes, and special teams plays that result in a run or pass).
Villanueva: Alejandro had his second best game of the season. He surrendered portions of 3 pressures (Q1, 4:55, bulled by OLB Leonard Floyd; Q2, 4:33, bulled by Floyd, ½ share; Q3, 8:42, beaten outside by DL Marquise Copeland). His false start was obviously a missed snap count and gave away his intention to pull on the play. Alejandro missed 3 blocks, all of which were losses at the LoS. He made 2 blocks in level 2, delivered a pancake, and connected on all 5 of his pulls. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 67 plays, 60 blocks, 3 missed, 1/2 penetration, 2.5 pressures, 1 false start, 51 points (.76 per play). That’s a B after adjustment.
Cleveland: Ben had his worst game of the year primarily against DTs A’Shawn Robinson and Aaron Donald. He was responsible for ½ share on each of 2 sacks (Q1, 5:36, bulled by Robinson then tripped over Zeitler/Donald who was pushed across the pocket; Q2, 0:36, he failed to pick up the blitzing ILB Troy Reeder who then steamrolled Freeman). He was also charged with 4 full pressures (Q1, 13:08, bulled by Robinson; Q1, 4:17, beaten outside by Donald; Q2, 3:48, beaten outside by Donald; Q2, 0:41, gave ground trying to contain Donald). He missed 6 blocks, 5 of which were losses at the LoS. He made 1 block in L2 and delivered a pancake. He earned 4 of a possible 7 points on pulls. He did not have a highlight.
Scoring: 67 plays, 53 blocks, 6 missed, ½ penetration, 4 pressures, 2/3 QH, 1 (2 x ½) sacks, 36 points (.54 per play). That’s an F even after adjustment.
Colon: Trystan had a poor game as a late replacement for Bozeman. He had contributions to 3 pass rush events (Q3, 2:48, bulled with Zeitler by Donald, ½ pressure; Q3, 1:14, bulled by Donald to flush Huntley, full pressure; Q4, 5:19, unable to help block Donald, ¼ sack). The latter two events came on drive-ending plays. His holding flag on NT Greg Gaines did not stall the drive. He missed 6 blocks, 5 of which were losses at the LoS, including some near-impossible reach block assignments on Donald on 2-man pulls from the left. He made 3 blocks in level 2 and delivered a pancake. He connected on his only pull. His highlight was a combination block on NT Gaines then CB David Long in level 2 (Q3, 7:37).
Scoring: 67 plays, 57 blocks, 6 missed, 1 penetration, 1.5 pressures, 1/4 sack, 1 holding, 44.5 points (.66 per play). That’s a high F after adjustment.
Zeitler: Kevin rebounded sharply from last week. He was party to 3 pressure events (Q1, 5:36, pushed DT Donald across pocket and into Cleveland, ½ sack; Q3 2:48, bulled by Donald with Colon, ½ pressure; Q4, 5:19, beaten inside by Donald, ¼ sack). He missed 2 blocks, one of which was a loss at the LoS. He made 5 blocks in level 2 but did not have a pancake and connected on 3 of 4 pulls, including his highlight on which he drove inside ILB Reeder 5 yards in level 2.
Scoring: 67 plays, 62 blocks, 2 missed, 1/2 pressure, ¾ (1/2 + ¼) sack, 56.5 points (.84 per play). That’s a B+ with adjustment.
Mekari: Patrick struggled with OLB Von Miller. He was party to 7 pressure events:
- (Q2, 4:33): bulled by OLB Miller, ½ pressure
- (Q3, 4:55): beaten outside by Miller to flush Huntley, full pressure
- (Q3, 4:50): bulled by Miller, ½ pressure
- (Q4, 5:19): bulled by OLB Floyd, ½ sack
- (Q4, 0:57): bulled by Miller, full pressure
- (Q4, 0:42): beaten outside by Miller to flush Huntley forward, full pressure
- (Q4, 0:19): beaten outside by Miller dip move, full sack
He missed 5 blocks 3 of which were losses at the LoS. He made 2 blocks in level 2 and delivered 2 pancakes. He was not assigned to pull. His highlight was a combination on DT Robinson then ILB Reeder in level 2 (Q4, 6:50).
Scoring: 67 plays, 55 blocks, 5 missed, 4 (3 + 2 x 1/2) pressures, 1.5 sacks, 38 points (.57 per play). That’s a D with adjustment.
